Kevin Ashley is Director of the Digital Curation Centre (DCC), a consortium based at the University of Edinburgh whose mission is to increase the capability and capacity of research organisations around the world to make the most of their research data. He has a long-term interest in the management and reuse of data and the skills and services necessary to support this, and is a frequent speaker on these topics as well as occasional tutor on DCC training courses. He is vice-chair of the Digital Preservation Coalition, co-chair of the RDA interest groups on Data Management Planning and National Data Services and a member of the RDA Organisational Advisory Board.
He was a member of the RLG/NARA task force which developed the TRAC methodology for repository audit and was chair of JISC's Repositories and Preservation Advisory Group. Other advisory, steering and expert group memberships include: the Advisory Council for ERPANET; the Archives Hub Steering Committee; expert group on policy for DL.ORG; GRDI2020 expert committee and the advisory group for the Digital Preservation Handbook (Beagrie & Jones.) He was previously involved in the development and standardisation of network protocols, active in bodies such as ANSI, BSI and EWOS. He began his career in a medical research unit devoted to innovative uses of IT in the support of clinical research and practice.
