Needs and solutions for federated service management
Date:
Wednesday, September 28, 2016 - 14:00
Overview:
The major European e-infrastructures provide all the necessary operational tools and processes to operate and manage a large distributed infrastructure, guaranteeing standard operation across heterogeneous resources from multiple independent providers. This includes, for example, monitoring, accounting, configuration and other services required to federate service provision for access by multiple research communities. The federated environment of European e-Infrastructures is a key enabler for distributed management and processing of data, allowing researchers to focus on their applications without worrying about the complexity of the underlying infrastructure.
In this session, the tools and the solutions for federated service management adopted by four of the major European e-infrastructures, EGI, EUDAT, GEANT and PRACE, will be briefly described, illustrating how each infrastructure deals with the common problems of a large distributed environment. The session will be completed by a panel which will discuss possible synergies and approaches to harmonisation and interoperability of the service management layers of the four infrastructures, with the ultimate aim of offering a uniform environment to the end users.
